I am extremely sad to hear about Baruch. He was a wonderful teacher and inspiring linguist.
Although we disagreed with each other on 'Israeli', I have always had great respect for him. I am really sorry if I might have made him angry. Please forgive me. As you know, it was all pure scholarship.
I vividly remember our trip to Jordan, as well as your recent visit to Australia. As you may recall, I was looking forward to Baruch's paper, especially because it challenged my own hybridic theory of Israeli genesis, but had to rush my wife to the hospital, where she gave birth to our second son Giovanni Lahav Zhiran Zuckermann exactly during Baruch's paper…
Sincere apologies for writing in English rather than in Israeli but it simply has to do with my current Shanghainese keyboard. The alternative is Chinese (which Baruch would have appreciated).
